He completed his undergraduate work in California at U.C. Davis, received his Master’s degree from Colorado State University and he worked for three years as a fisheries biologist for Wyoming Game and Fish in Pinedale, WY before moving back to Colorado. Matt has 19 years of experience monitoring the response of fish populations and habitat to river restoration in Colorado. He also studies the barrier potential of river structures to fish including everything from whitewater parks to conservation barriers designed to protect native fish to technical fishways to water diversions and dams. November 19, 2025, Golden, CO – This evening, the Colorado Water Conservation Board (CWCB) voted to approve the long-anticipated Shoshone water rights acquisition, to secure two water rights associated with the Shoshone Power Plant, including one of the state’s most significant Colorado River water rights, for permanent instream flow protection. The vote launches the next phase of the process, including water court, and begins the work of preserving and improving the 2.4-mile reach of the Colorado River between the Shoshone Power Plant Diversion Dam and Tunnel and the Shoshone Power Plant Discharge Outlets. Learn More: Clean water protections weakened under new EPA rule. Arlington, Virginia – This week, the Environmental Protection Agency and Army Corps of Engineers jointly released a proposed rule that would strip Clean Water Act protection from millions of acres of wetlands, countless miles of streams, and threaten the health of an untold number of watersheds across the country.
“Clean water isn’t a luxury for trout or for people, it’s the backbone of healthy communities, strong fisheries, and safe drinking water. When you weaken protections for the small streams that feed our rivers, you put all of that at risk,” said Chris Wood, President and CEO of Trout Unlimited. “We all live downstream and deserve a Clean Water Act worthy of its name—one that protects the waters that support our fish, our families, and our way of life.” Learn More: |
