Every year, PPCTU sponsors the Trout in the Classroom program, in which middle or high school level classrooms raise trout from the egg to the fry life stages. At the end of the year-long course, the classroom releases the trout into a local lake or stream- connecting the students back to their local environment. During the year each teacher tailors the program to fit their curricular needs. Therefore, each program is unique. TIC has interdisciplinary applications in science, social studies, mathematics, language arts, fine arts, and physical education.
PPCTU donates the funds to support each school within our district. The costs can vary from initial set up of purchasing the tanks and gear, to simply providing funds to replace items that are used up, i.e., new filters, auxiliary technical devices (telemetry) as each school designs their programs. Here is a link to some very detailed science projects designed by different schools in or TIC program: docs.google.com/presentation/d/1XwNCzEMLuuHrjESoAgx9Wcg-zAm2-ov9u4UxMS54jOM/edit?usp=sharing |
