Special Presentation: Colorado Vintage Fly Fishing

Founded by Craig Haney in 2017 after a career in architecture,
Colorado Vintage Fly Fishing represents a longtime dream for him; preserving
and sharing vintage and classic fly fishing tackle while still allowing time
for fishing!  Craig is also a volunteer naturalist for Colorado Parks and
Wildlife, teaching fly fishing and leading nature hikes at nearby Mueller
State Park.

Growing up in Colorado, fishing with his father and grandfather,  he
was exposed early in his life to the sport of fly fishing. His background in
architecture gave him an appreciation for history and well-designed objects.
The logical result of these influences is his desire to collect, restore and
share these beautiful vintage and classic bamboo and fiberglass fly rods and
other tackle.

The presentation will be about the history of fly fishing rods, from wood
branches with string tied to the end to laminated wood, cane, split bamboo,
fiberglass, steel, boron, and the introduction of graphite. I will bring
some interesting examples and some even more interesting rod stories.

I would like to encourage members to bring in their vintage and classic
tackle; rods, reels and other. I can give them an idea of what they have and
possible value.

I have a Wright and McGill "trailmaster" fiberglass packable spinning rod
and an Orvis "Clearwater Classic" fly reel, both from the 1980's, that came
out of the TU storage room that we can give away as door prizes.
